How to Sign a PDF on a Chromebook — Free Online

Chromebooks cannot install traditional desktop PDF apps, but signing PDFs in Chrome is just as easy. Here is how to sign a PDF on a Chromebook for free — directly in the browser, with a drawn or typed signature.

1

Step 1 — Open the Sign PDF Tool in Chrome

On your Chromebook, open Chrome and go to pdfeditor.onl/sign-pdf. No Linux or Android app is needed — the signing tool runs entirely in Chrome.

2

Step 2 — Upload the PDF from Files or Drive

Click the upload area and select the PDF from your Chromebook's Files app — either local storage or Google Drive. Both are accessible from the Chrome file picker.

Tip: If the PDF is shared in Google Drive, download it first to the Chromebook Files app, then upload it to the sign tool for local processing.

3

Step 3 — Create Your Signature

Use the touchpad or an external mouse to draw your signature in the signature pad. Chromebook trackpads support click-and-drag drawing. If you have a touchscreen Chromebook, sign with your finger directly.

4

Step 4 — Place and Position the Signature

Drag the signature overlay to the correct position on the document page. Use the size handles to scale it to fit the signature line.

5

Step 5 — Download the Signed PDF

Click Download PDF. Chrome saves the signed file to your Downloads folder. Upload it back to Google Drive if needed — or email it directly from Chrome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a touchscreen Chromebook to sign with my finger?

Yes. Touch input in the browser signature pad works on touchscreen Chromebooks, giving you a natural finger signature.

Does this work offline on Chromebook?

After loading the tool once while online, Chrome caches the assets. You can use the sign tool offline for locally stored PDFs if the browser cache is intact.
