How to Add a Watermark to a PDF Online — Free

Watermarks protect your documents from unauthorised use and mark drafts, confidential files, or branded materials. Here's how to add a professional watermark to a PDF in seconds.

1

Step 1 — Open PDF Studio

Go to pdfeditor.onl/pdf-studio and upload your PDF.

2

Step 2 — Select the Watermark Tool

Click the Watermark option in the toolbar. A settings panel will appear where you can type your watermark text (e.g. "CONFIDENTIAL", "DRAFT", or your company name) or upload a watermark image such as a logo.

3

Step 3 — Customise the Watermark

Adjust the opacity to control how visible the watermark is (a value of 20–40% is typical for background watermarks). Set the rotation angle — diagonal watermarks at 45° are most common. Choose the size to ensure it covers the page appropriately.

Tip: For draft documents, use red text at 30% opacity rotated 45°. For confidential documents, use the same style with "CONFIDENTIAL" in all caps.

4

Step 4 — Apply and Download

Click Apply Watermark. The watermark is applied to all pages and embedded permanently into the PDF. Download your watermarked PDF instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add an image watermark instead of text?

Yes. The watermark tool supports both text and image watermarks. Upload a PNG with a transparent background for best results.

Can I apply the watermark to specific pages only?

The current implementation applies the watermark to all pages. For page-specific placement, use the Image Overlay tool on individual pages.

Can the watermark be removed?

The watermark is flattened into the PDF page content, making it difficult to remove without specialised software.
