How to Add a Table of Contents to a PDF — Free Online

Adding a table of contents to a long PDF makes it easier to navigate. Here is how to create and insert one using free browser tools.

Step 1 — Add Page Numbers First

Go to pdfeditor.onl/page-numbers. Add page numbers to the document. Note the exact page numbers of each major section heading.

Step 2 — Create the TOC Content

Open a text editor (Notepad, TextEdit) and draft your table of contents: Section 1 — Introduction ......... 1, Section 2 — Methodology ......... 5, etc. Copy the text.
