How to Add Page Numbers and Date to a PDF — Free

Adding both a page number and date to every PDF page is a common requirement for reports, legal filings, and official documents. Here is how to do both in one step.

1

Open the Header & Footer Tool

Go to pdfeditor.onl/header-footer. This tool adds persistent text across all pages simultaneously.

2

Set Up Page Numbers and Date

In the footer center zone, type: Page {page} of {total}. In the footer right zone, type: {date}. This inserts the page number, total page count, and today's date on every page.

Tip: The {date} token inserts today's date at processing time. For a specific date, type it manually instead of using the token.

3

Apply and Download

Click Apply to All Pages and download. Every page now has a consistent page number and date in the footer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add page numbers in the header and date in the footer?

Yes. Use the three zones (left, center, right) independently for header and footer — any combination is possible.

Can I choose the date format?

The {date} token uses the processing date in standard format. For a custom date format, type the date manually.

Is this free?

Yes — completely free at pdfeditor.onl/header-footer.
